THOMAS DESHANE

A Multitalented, aspiring artist.

I have been playing games since the age of 3 (PAC-Man was my first). I grew up in the mountains of NC where I developed a fond skill of drawing and an even more evolving love of games. Through schooling, schooling, and yet: more schooling, I have learned a little about game development in different areas of the field. Modeling assets, texturing, and even programming are really interesting to me. Anything, really, to do in the gaming industry, I’m all up for learning something new day after day. So, take a look at what I have and hopefully we can pursue from there!

PAST PROJECTS

My Art

As drawing was a major part of my childhood, I developed it the best I could with no teachers. Now that I’m involved in drawing better and the invention of YouTube, I’ve become a bit better. This first section is a nod to a couple of drawings and some modeling I have done in the past 10 years.

Untitled

WALTER FRING

This piece is done totally in stippling art with a pen medium. All freehand from start to end point. Its Walter White from Breaking Bad… except, his right side of his face is being blown away, like Gus Fring. Unfinished.

Untitled

BUB

Another drawing. This one is of Bub from Day of the Dead. The medium is pen and it is freehand as well. This one is more of a negative space art style.

Untitled

BOWLING ALLEY

Far view of a fully modeled bowling alley scene in Maya.

Untitled

BOWLING ALLEY 2

Closer view of a bowler approaching about to get his ball from the ball return. Project in Maya.

Untitled

BOWLING ALLEY 3

More asset modeling (chairs, tables, balls, etc.) within the bowling alley. Project done in Maya.

Untitled

MR. NO-EYES

A zBrush sculpt I was doing when I attended Full Sail.

Untitled

SNACK AND CHOKE

A little bar scene I made in Maya. One patron was choking and another did the ol’ “up-and-at-em” Heimlich on him!

Untitled

SNACK AND CHOKE 2

Same bar scene; same situation. Just a view of a burger with knocked over salt and pepper shakers and a bottle. Modeled in Maya.

Untitled

LONESOME ISLAND

An island with a stranded stranger. There were two strangers, but one passed. Project in Maya.

Untitled

PINBALL MACHINE!

Everyone’s favorite childhood gaming machine! Modeled in Maya.

Untitled

PINBALL MACHINE! 2

This is a glimpse of what’s under the glass of play. Project in Maya.

Untitled

PINBALL MACHINE! 3

Pull the knob and get ready to slap those buttons! Modeled in Maya.

Untitled

KITCHEN

As the title states…. Modeled in Maya.

Untitled

KITCHEN 2

A little bit closer view of some assets in the kitchen. Modeled in Maya.

Untitled

LIVING ROOM

Beginning setup of a living room. Modeled in Blender.

Untitled

LIVING ROOM 2

A few assets added into the room. Everything is low poly modeled from scratch in Blender.

Untitled

LIVING ROOM 3

Added more books to the right shelf and the blinds for the window. Modeled in Blender.

Untitled

LIVING ROOM 4

Getting involved with texturing. It’s actually quite fun! Textured with Blender.

Untitled

LIVING ROOM 5

Side view of the textured, modeled living room. Modeled and textured in Blender.

Untitled

LIVING ROOM 6 - FINAL RENDER

Worked on the lighting placement with an area light (I found it better fitting than the sun lighting) and a point light. Added the environmental texture picture and worked on the camera angle along with shadows and glare to obtain the final render. Final Render in Blender with Eevee render engine.

Untitled

THE FORGOTTEN GETAWAY

This piece is actually a class project. I want to return to it and change a few different things to my liking. But, this piece was done totally in Blender. I’m honestly having a good time properly learning nodes for texturing and little lighting tricks. The trees in the background are actually textured planes; giving the piece the look of being in the forest. Definitely cutting down on polys. I used a cube around the entire area to add a hint of fog (emission). This is the final render.

Untitled

BRICKS…. IN THE MEDIEVAL WALL

*This is a class project and replicates the instructors work*     Learning to texture, UV map, and use nodes within Blender to achieve this wall.

Untitled

BRICK, SANDSTONE BOARDER, AND PLASTER TEXTURING SPHERE WITH NODES

*Learning nodes and applying my knowledge through my instructor’s teachings; replicated**    Learning nodes on a sphere. Applying brick texture and maps, the plaster w/ maps, and the sandstone boarder displacement map. Weight painting was also involved.

THOMAS THE CLOWN

Two hands, multiple fires, and many irons

I chose this picture because not only was I a professional wrestler for years, I’m also a big jokester. I love to have fun. Spent many years gaming, learning, and have been working in construction most of my life. I recently had a health scare and am getting on track to do what I love the most: Art and Games. Even at 37, I’m still a big kid at heart! I still attend school at the moment earning different certificates from Unity online.
